Yoga Sutras of Patanjali w/Gina
Wednesday March 6th
7:30-9:30 PM
Patañjali fills each sutra with his experiential intelligence, stretching it like a thread (sutra),  and weaving it into a garland of pearls of wisdom  to flavor and savor by those who love and live in yoga . . . -B.K.S Iyengar

The goal of yoga is to unite us with and to experience our true self, our innate bliss. Through the study and application of the Yoga Sutras our spirit is uncovered within us rather than found outside of ourselves.

Patanjali divided his Yoga Sutras into 4 chapters or books (Sanskrit pada), containing in all 196 aphorisms, or short phrases. In this 2 hour workshop you will be introduced to the key sutras and concepts that are the heart of the philosophical understanding and science of mind that yoga is.

It is recommended that you purchase a copy of the book above for your own reflection and study after the workshop but is not necessary to purchase or read beforehand. Hand outs will be given to follow for the evening.

Ayurveda and Nutrition Part 2

Wednesday, March 13th
7:30-9:30 PM
with Linda

Ayurveda is one of the oldest forms of medicine practiced in the world. In this ancient Indian system of medicine, practitioners help to bring balance to our systems through diagnosing imabalances in our doshas (pronounced DOE-shahs). A person’s diet along with the medicinal application of herbs is one way in which the practitioner can help to achieve that.

In this informative evening you will learn the basic principles of how to determine which dosha is dominant in your constitution and what types of foods can be used to find balance as well as which foods to avoid.

Come and explore this healing art and it’s many facets with Linda for a night of lecture and some tasty samples of healing foods.

Monthly Reiki Circle with Reiki Master Eugene

Third Thursday of every month 8:30-10 PM

Thursday 3/21

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Muscle Testing Workshop

Muscle testing dates pending, check the website and Facebook page for exact dates shortly.

In conjunction with the Diagnosis Foundation, we will be offering a series of Muscle Testing screenings and workshops at Bearfoot. All of the workshops are free of charge. Read up on it and come get educated about what weaknesses and strengths you have and how to get the balance you need.

What: Manual muscle testing of the arms or legs. - This screening offered a semi-quantitative assessment of muscle strength in 14 – 28 different muscles in either the arm or leg regions.  The muscles included in the screening program represent approximately 25% of the muscles in each region and were selected for their frequent involvement as a factor in sport performance and overall health.

Who: The Muscle Strength & Balance (MS&B) screening is being offered to a wide range of venues.  Yoga studios, health clubs, sporting events (races, fun runs, bike events, etc), health fairs, business organizations, libraries, and more.Screening Formats: This testing program is being offered in 3 different formats:

Screening Only – Participants schedule their screening appointments on a space available basis at the event.

  • Workshop – The screening for all participants is preceded by a 30 minute talk about the significance of muscle strength & balance in health & performance.

Why: Muscle imbalances are implicated in a wide range of health and performance issues.

  • Health – Muscle imbalances are a potential causal or complicating factor in osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Performance – Balanced muscle strength around each joint is a requirement to maintain bio-mechanical alignment and stability in order to achieve maximal physical performance and injury prevention.

Causes: Abnormal findings in MS&B screenings may simply be the result of the accumulated activities that each person participates in on a daily basis.

Over time, regularly used muscles get stronger, while unused muscles get weaker.  Other potential causes for abnormal finding could include: post traumatic, post surgical, neurological, vascular, genetic or metabolic issues.

Follow Up:  All participants with abnormal findings are instructed to contact their current health care provider for diagnosis of the cause of their muscular imbalances and appropriate treatment.
